Vita – Felix Kroll

Felix Kroll, born in Berlin in 1986, is intensively committed to the accordion with its diverse possibilities in the most varied artistic fields. He completed his studies with Gerhard Scherer, Prof. Margit Kern, Prof. Claudia Buder, Mikko Luoma (Finland) and Prof. Geir Draugsvoll (Denmark). He has won prizes at various competitions and is a scholarship holder of the Oscar-und-Vera-Ritter and Pradé foundations.

Shortly after completing his studies, he received a lectureship at the Rostock University of Music and Drama from 2014 to 2016. He has been teaching at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2017.

Artistically, he is actively involved in the contemporary music scene, regularly premieres new works and works closely with renowned composers such as Helmut Oehring, Georg Katzer, Sidney Corbett, Younghi Pagh-Paan and many more.

Even at the beginning of his student career, he worked on stages such as the Leipziger Schauspiel, the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn and the Haus der Berliner Festpiele. There he made guest appearances together with the Leipzig actor and word acrobat Wolfgang Krause Zwieback. Since then, he has been in great demand as a performer, artistic director and composer in the field of theater music. He regularly works with well-known actors such as Corinna Harfouch, Dagmar Manzel or Winnie Böwe in readings and musical theater productions.

Felix Kroll has been playing in the successful band “Die Grenzgänger” since 2009, bringing almost forgotten folk songs back to life and giving them a modern twist.  Stylistically, they move between folk/chanson, blues/rock and swing/jazz. He has been involved in three CD productions by this band, one of which was awarded the “Deutscher Schallplattenpreis”. Concerts have taken him to renowned festivals such as the “Bardentreffen” in Nuremberg, the “OpenOhr Festival” in Mainz, the “Festival Musik und Politik” in Berlin and the “Waldeck”.

In 2012, he founded the “RADAR ensemble”, which positions itself in contemporary music by creating a bridge to performance, improvisation and multimedia concepts. Here he has already been able to co-develop a variety of programs and has commissioned and premiered several compositions.

In 2015, he was able to prove himself in the field of accompaniment with the accordion in the production AGOTA by Helmut Oehring at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden.

As a soloist, numerous productions have taken him to stages such as Deutsches Theater Berlin, Staatstheater Dresden, Hamburg State Opera, Konzerthaus Berlin and Theater Lübeck. International concerts have taken him all over Europe, to Russia and Korea.

He regularly performs in various formations such as the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Babelsberg Film Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Brandenburg State Orchestra Frankfurt, Oh ton-ensemble, Reflexion K, Zafraan and Junge Musik Berlin.  He has appeared several times in television and radio recordings – numerous CD productions document his work.

Since 2011 he has been playing on a PIGINI Sirius made in Freiburg by Hartmut Saam.
